Just in time for the apple harvest, the Our Nature Park, together with Singa Luxembourg, visited the traditional orchard of the municipality of Wincrange. The participants gained fascinating insights into the cultural heritage of traditional orchards in Luxembourg and across Europe, learning about the important role these traditional landscape elements play for both biodiversity and cultural heritage.
After a short introduction, everyone joined in collecting and picking apples and pears. Afterwards, the group enjoyed a shared lunch before taking part in a sensory apple tasting.
Participants were able to compare various local apple varieties with industrial ones – and the differences were remarkable! To round off the day, there was a sweet reward: homemade apple tart and pear cake, lovingly prepared according to a traditional recipe.
This experience offered a valuable intercultural exchange, providing an enjoyable way to discover the richness of local culinary traditions. It also highlighted that traditional orchards are not only precious habitats but also places of encounter, learning, and taste.
A big thank you goes to Singa Luxembourg for making this exchange possible!
